How it's worked out
A point looks sharp when its blur circle on the sensor is no bigger than 0.03 mm on full frame, or 0.03 mm ÷ crop factor on smaller sensors. The hyperfocal distance is H = f² ÷ (N × c) + f, and the near and far limits follow from it. It's the same thin-lens model as the aperture and hyperfocal chapters.
Other calculators may use a stricter blur limit and give a shallower sharp zone. Treat the numbers as a starting point and zoom in on the photo to check.
